[[MIXTAPE]] DJ COSMO PRESENTS: THE SOUL CHOP TAPE

Here it is! The Soul Chop Tape.

In these days and times of over-produced songs, I really wanted to make something that was more about feeling than technical value. While digging for records in Montreal, I challenged myself to make a raw mix by just cutting up samples. Since I’m only using these soul records to make the song- no added sounds or effects- it creates a feeling of chopping live like a DJ at a party with an MC backing him up. But in this case, the MCs I’m working with are Bun B, T.I., De La Soul, Lil Wayne, Method Man, Redman, Q-Tip and other A-listers. Peep the tracklist and you’ll get the picture.

The Coast, Halifax’s alternative weekly, does a “Best Of” section once a year voted by the readers. This year, I was named “Best DJ” and since I recently moved to Montreal, this is a great going away present. I want to send a big thanks to all the readers that voted for me.

In-store DJ set at Off the Hook

Im gonna be playing an in-store set at Off the Hook from 2:30pm to 5:30pm on April 17. Off the Hook is now ten years old and still the best store in the city to get fly, find out about what to do, or just hang out and learn stuff. They’ve been big supporters of my GET NICE weekly at Blizzarts and now they’ve asked me to spin a set and record it for their website as part of a DJ series they are doing. Ride Shakedown Afterparty

I’m gonna be playing at the Ride Shakedown Afterparty sponsored by Coors Light on April 2nd at Bourbon Street North, an enormous outdoor club and hotel in St. Adele. For my move to Montreal, I’ve decided to put out new a mix that exemplifies the state of mind I’m in these days moving from one city to the other. GET NICE Fridays at Blizzarts

After a nice and fruitful run in Halifax, I’m moving to Montreal and taking residency at Blizzarts- a Plateau neighborhood bar that I feel will be a good home for me. In partnership with Sofa King Raw and Off the Hook, we are launching GET NICE, a new weekly that will hopefully deliver quality times for the city. It will be going down every Friday night starting March 19th. I’m really looking forward to meeting friendly Montreal party people, like-minded individuals and hip hop fans throughout the city. I actually use to live in Montreal about ten years ago so we should call this a return more than a welcome.
